Painting updates

I know its been awhile since I last worked on this piece (or wrote anything).. but I am back at my easel with fresh inspiration. A few months ago, when I first began this painting, I felt lost to which direction this piece should go.. My main goal was to stick solely to acrylic paint, not to bring in other materials... I'm beginning to rethink that goal..

Originally I had wanted to challenge myself to stick to just one medium. I thought it would make me a stronger artist to achieve this self imposed goal, but after some serious consideration I began to realize that I was not being true to my creative self but limiting how a piece is made... The story is not complete until I am able to add another element to the image..  I am an artist who dabbles with many creative materials and conveys an idea through multiple layers.

The piece below was envisioned different a few months ago and may still turn out different from what I am currently envisioning.. At this moment I am picturing a large ship crashing into the locks of hair and maybe a small cityscape perched on the shoulder.  The cityscape might still be omitted. I'm debating on whether I should paint the ship or collage it onto the image..

Title: When the soul meets Body.

Last night after deciding that I was finished with painting for the night I saw that I still had plenty of paint left on my palette. Not wanting to waste material I created an impromptu painting of an orchid.. its not very good at all, but I think it can become something better if I work it right...

I just need to figure out where I need to take the image......
I actually think that the painting looks better in this photo than it does in person..

Image Update for the Girl with the lovely Titian Hair..

Reworked the flesh color. still think it looks sickly, but have decided to make it work.

Putting the piece away for a little while until I figure out who this girl is and what she is thinking about.

Red Lotus

This is a block of wood that I will begin cutting into at some point this week to create a woodblock Print. I once saw Tom Huck, founder of Evil Prints studio in St Louis, speak on wood cutting techniques.. He advised us to stain the wood red with a large red permanent marker so that we could better see our cuts. The black sharpie ink serves as a design guide and remains behind, it will be the desired printed image.

This is my first woodcut since listening to Tom Huck and I think I like the dynamic of the red and black design.... Feeling inspired to explore this visual imagery further.. perhaps with different materials or experimenting with printing the image on different papers..

I like the simplicity of the Lotus image. I find it relaxing.

The girl with the lovely Titian hair..

I began a painting... I'm not nearly as talented with acrylics as I wish. I have never painted flesh tones before... But I don't think its such a bad start..

Practice makes perfect. At least that is what I have been told..

I know its conceptually simple at the moment. That will change when I know more about who this girl is and what thoughts thrive within her head.

could have..

I could have gone along with your plan, but then I would already know the outcome. And it looked boring.

Sorry...

Food for thought

Art is the record of development - or decline - of human understanding
